Cleaning and replacing the air purifier filter

2018-11-13

With the improvement of living standards and the increasingly serious environmental pollution, air purifiers have become an essential household appliance for many families. However, as a home appliance that requires regular maintenance, consumers are confused when they use it. When do you need to replace or clean the filter?

As the core part of the air purifier product parts, if the filter is not cleaned in time, the function of the purifier can not be effectively exerted on the one hand, and the service life of the filter will be damaged on the other hand.

Replacement time

In general, many purifiers now come with a reminder indicator for filter replacement. Follow the instructions of the lamp and change it. Some product manuals will also indicate the filter replacement cycle.

Secondly, you can observe whether the air volume of the air outlet is getting smaller; whether the noise is getting bigger; whether the air outlet has an odor; whether the color of the filter (especially HEPA) is black.

Three mainstream filters for filter air purifiers: pre-filter, activated carbon filter, HEPA filter.

Each layer of filter function and cleaning and maintenance methods are different. Some brands of air purifiers are equipped with a composite filter or other special function filter screen, which can be cleaned according to the instructions of the manual.

The pre-filter (also called the pre-filter/primary filter) is the first filter of the air purifier and the most dirty one.

Cleaning cycle: Depending on the frequency of use, it is usually appropriate to clean 1-2 times a month.

Cleaning method: Use a rag/vacuum cleaner to remove dust. If you feel that the cleaning is not thorough enough, you can also rinse with water, remember to use soft hair. Finally, dry it.

Activated carbon filter, its main function is to remove volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde, toluene, etc., as well as odor, deodorization and so on.

Cleaning cycle: It is recommended to clean and dry for at least one month for newly renovated users, southern rainy season and northern rainy season; other conditions may be adjusted according to the frequency of use.

Cleaning method: The dust on the surface of the activated carbon filter can be wiped with a dry rag or cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Due to the specific structure of the activated carbon pores and the specificity of the solid, water washing is not recommended unless otherwise stated.

The cleaned filter screen is placed in the outdoor sunlight, and the front and back sides are exposed to sunlight for 2-3 hours respectively, so that the temperature is "desorbed" to achieve the effect of "regeneration" of the activated carbon. Although the effect is limited, and the fate of the final replacement is still not rewritten after 3-4 exposures, regular cleaning is necessary to maintain the filter purification effect and reduce the risk of secondary pollution.

Hepa filter is a high-efficiency air filter with large wind resistance, large dust holding capacity and high filtration precision.

Cleaning cycle: According to the frequency of use and pollution status, it is usually cleaned once every 1-2 months, and the cleaning time can also be judged according to the accumulated usage time.

Specific operation: Since the hepa filter material is generally paper, if it can not be washed and cleaned without specific labeling, vacuum cleaner can be used to clean the dust on the surface of the filter (except glass fiber HEPA) or wipe it gently with a dry rag or paper towel, and dry it properly. If necessary, UV disinfection can be carried out; however, if the original white filter is black, it must be replaced as soon as possible. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the filter. If dust is found in the air purifier filter box and air outlet during the cleaning process, it can be cleaned with a rag or a soft brush.

The allergen filter is cleaned or replaced once a month. The allergen filter can't be washed, and it can be beaten and dusted after a period of use.
